MADE WITH SOUL
From perfecting the rotary engine and winning the Le Mans race the first time we entered it, to breaking the world record for the most-sold two-seater convertible in history, we are driven forward by the desire to defy convention. We believe that if you can imagine it, we can make it happen. This desire is the fuel behind everything we create and achieve and now,it has given usSKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, ‘KODO - Soul of Motion’ design and countless other successes that were once considered impossible feats. These pages show how striving to do what others cannot is not only rewarding but also integral to creating innovative, beautiful cars.
The refined Mazda CX-5 is more than the harmony of quality design, elegant finishes and unmatched performance. It’s a car that sparks a harmony of emotions. Joy. Exhilaration. The sense that all is right with the world and you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. This is Mazda’s signature “KODO - Soul of Motion” brought to life every time your fingertips brush the steering wheel. Of course, you’ll still enjoy the elegantly designed alloy wheels, the sophisticated front grille, LED headlamps and rear combination lamps. You’ll still grace the roads with an aesthetic that is as considered as it is beautiful. You’ll just experience an unmistakable connection with your soul as you do.
The Mazda CX-5 has SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS, a series of technologies that integrates control of the engine, transmission, chassis and body to enhance the sense of oneness between car and driver, which is referred to as Jinba Ittai. All of this adds up to an exceptional drive that feels like it’s been crafted just for you.
The emotion you feel in a Mazda CX-5 is ignited by the features for which Mazda is famous. Everything about the car testifies to the breakthrough performance and efficiency of Mazda’s new-generationSKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY. A smooth ride and athletic responses are just the start. Both petrol and diesel engines offer plenty of torque with low fuel consumption. Manual and automatic transmissions have been developed to increase responsiveness while all elements of the chassis - from brakes to suspension to steering - have been refined to provide a higher-quality ride that never compromises on performance. Available in three engine types, you’ll discover improved responsiveness on acceleration and enhanced fuel efficiency.
Intelligent i-ACTIV AWD monitors and predicts road conditions, so the Mazda CX-5 can adjust its performance to deliver impressive real-world fuel efficiency and a superior drive every time. You’ll also experience a quieter ride than ever before because everything from aerodynamics to construction materials have been considered to ensure less road, tyre and wind noise. *Standard on 2.5L Individual and 2.2L DE Akera models.
The SKYACTIV-G engines deliver impressive fuel economy along with powerful torque at low to mid-range speeds. This combines with linear acceleration response and an exhilaratingly powerful feel, allowing you to enjoy a quality drive in all situations. The 2.0L delivers 121 kW of power and 213 Nm of torque, using from only 6.8L of fuel every 100 km. The muscular 2.5L engine punches out 143 kW and 258 Nm, using just 7.3L of fuel every 100 km.
Mazda’s i-ACTIV AWD is a predictive, on-demand AWD system that anticipates front tyre slip and applies just enough torque to the rear wheels to prevent slipping from occurring. *Standard on 2.5L Individual and 2.2L DE Akera models.
New-generation design and technologies take performance to unmatched levels. The underbody employs straight-frame construction, which runs uninterrupted through the framework to boost stiffness while saving weight. Front and rear suspension mounting pools bond directly to the underbody to add further strength.Greatly increased use of high and ultra-high tensile steel throughout cuts weight without compromising strength. Despite being light, the Mazda CX-5 disperses crash energy in multiple directions to achieve collision
performance among the world’s best.
The clean-running SKYACTIV-D 2.2L engine produces 140 kW of power and a muscular 450 Nm of torque using from as little as 5.7L of fuel every 100 km. The compression ratio of 14.0:1 is one of the lowest in the world for such an engine and means less friction and inertia for higher-revving and more exciting power. It also features a Natural Sound Smoother and Natural Sound Frequency Control, which reduce and suppress knocking noises. It all adds to a smooth and quiet drive.
SKYACTIV-MT MANUAL & SKYACTIV-DRIVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
The 6-speed manual transmission delivers precise, sports-car style shifting as well as enhanced operability. The 6-speed automatic transmission combines the best attributes of conventional automatic, continuously variable and dual-clutch transmissions while a new gearshift control predicts operating intentions.
CHASSIS
Every component has been designed to create an unrivalled sense of oneness between car and driver. The steering wheel’s system structure has been optimised to achieve both excellent vibration insulation and high rigidity. The suspension has been revised, millimetre by millimetre, to achieve a gentler and higher-quality ride. This improved suspension means the braking system has also evolved to achieve shorter braking distances with outstanding performance.
CONVENIENT TECHNOLOGY
The Mazda CX-5 represents the latest in connectivity and infotainment. USB ports are situated in the front and rear of the cabin to accommodate all of your devices. Up front, MZD Connect allows you to safely access your compatible smartphone’s contacts, social media and music. Standard on all models. Integrated navigation* guides you from a large, upright touchscreen controlled by a commander dial. The exceptional 10-speaker BOSE® Sound system* is integrated seamlessly throughout the interior. Listen to music, radio and podcasts from a wide range of sources, including Pandora®, Stitcher™ and Aha™. *BOSE® Sound speaker system and integrated navigation. *Standard on Individual and Akera models.
THE CONNECTED SUV
Comfort, technology and spaciousness meet quality finishes everywhere you turn. The elegantly crafted cabin surrounds the driver with carefully positioned controls. The full-colour Head-Up Display (HUD)* means crucial driving information is right there in the driver’s line of sight. From the higher, more angled centre console to the redesigned instrument panel, as well as the use of space and storage across front and rear rows, the Mazda CX-5 is a triumph of design. *Standard on Individual and Akera models.
SAFETY THAT’S READY FOR THE UNEXPECTED
A priority of the Mazda CX-5 is to maximise the safety of every passenger on board. Built with a rigid body frame, every model is equipped with 6 SRS airbags,Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), as well as Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to ensure your safety.
G-VECTORING CONTROL PLUS (GVC PLUS)
The G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) system is a handling aid that aims to make racecar-like cornering precision something that every driver can enjoy. That, in turn, leads to more direct handling and swifter reactions from the car, which are interpreted more readily and accurately by the ‘human body’ - the driver - in control. G-Vectoring Control (GVC) Plus is a software system that detects steering inputs and slightly restricts engine torque output to shift vehicle weight forward slightly, adding more down force to the front tyres.
HOW IT WORKS
G-Vectoring Control (GVC) Plus controls engine torque and uses the brakes to add direct yaw moment control for further enhanced handling stability. As the driver steers out of a corner by returning the steering wheel to the centre position, GVC Plus applies a light braking force to the outer wheels, providing a stabilising moment that helps restore the vehicle to straight line running.
LANE DEPARTURE WARNING (LDW) ANDLANE KEEP ASSIST (LKA)
The Lane Departure Warning system (LDW) detects line markings on the road surface and warns the driver of unintentional lane departures. This system is particularly effective in situations where the road is continuously straight and drivers have a tendency to not pay sufficient attention to the road. The Lane Keep Assist (LKA) promotes safer driving by providing appropriate steering assistance. The system works to prevent unintentional lane departures through steering assistance, to return the car towards the centre of the lane. Standard on Individual and Akera models.
DRIVER ATTENTION ALERT (DAA)
Driver Attention Alert (DAA) is designed to reduce accidents caused by inattentiveness due to driver fatigue. The system is activated at speeds above 65 km/h and begins eg. ‘learn’ the driver’s habits, watching inputs and the vehicle’s movements in the early stages before fatigue is a factor. Later, if the system detects changes in vehicle behaviour that suggests the driver may be losing concentration, it will suggest a rest stop by sounding a chime and displaying a warning in the Head-Up Display (HUD). Standard on Individual and Akera models.
ADAPTIVE LED HEADLAMPS (ALH)
Individual control of several LEDs allows precise adjustment of the lighting pattern. The system automatically broadens visibility at low speeds, shapes the high beam to help avoid dazzling other drivers and raises beam height at highway speeds to extend vision area. Standard on Individual and Akera models.
SMART CITY BRAKE SUPPORT (SCBS) FRONT & REAR
The Smart City Brake Support system (SCBS) is a safety feature that helps prevent or lessen low-speed impacts. The system monitors the vehicle in front to assess the possibility of a collision at forward speeds of 4 - 80 km/h. In an event that the system detects a high-risk impact, it then issues visual and audible warnings and primes the brakes for a faster response should the driver brake. Standard on Individual and Akera models.
BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM)
The Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) uses radars mounted in the rear bumper to detect vehicles approaching from behind and in the adjacent lane audible alert in the event that a vehicle is detected in your vehicle’s blind spot and assists the driver by scanning the external mirrors’ blind spot. The radar is able to detect any unseen vehicles and through an LED icon, alert the driver to help avoid making hazardous lane changes. Standard on Individual and Akera models.
REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT (RCTA)
Have you ever had to hit the brakes suddenly when backing out of a parking space because you didn’t see a vehicle coming from the side? Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) is designed to help you make sure it’s safe to start backing up. The system uses the same radars and indicators as BSM to watch for vehicles coming from both sides and alert the driver when they come near. Standard on Individual and Akera models.
HEAD-UP DISPLAY (HUD) – WINDSHIELD
Mazda’s Head-Up Display (HUD) shows important driving information like current speed, next turn directions from the integrated navigation and safety alerts. It is positioned directly in front of the driver, which means it feeds you all the information without you needing to take your eyes off the road. You can adjust the height at the display to match your eyeline.
